DO I NEED A LAWYER ? YES !
Quite often when a person is wanted by law enforcement, the authorities will go to where the person lives and ask to speak with them or call the house and ask the wanted person to come down to the precinct to "talk".
You or your loved one think that it is a matter that can be explained or you can talk your way out of it and the next thing you know, your under arrest and the authorities have an incriminating confession or admission.
Usually if the police are looking for you, it it not to talk. They most likely have a complaint against you or you were otherwise implicated or connected to an alleged crime. Chances are you are going to be arrested.
An attorney usually will not be able to prevent your arrest. However, they can contact the police and find out what is really going on. If there is going to be an arrest, usually a date and time can be made for a surrender.
Some of the benefits of having an attorney are that you get to find out what is really happening and if there is going to be an arrest you can at least surrender on your own terms instead of being arrested at work or home. Additionally, your attorney will prevent you from making the mistake of "talking" to the police and incriminating yourself.
Finally, if there is a surrender, your attorney can keep track of you through the arraignment process and advise your family as to when you are likely to appear before the judge in order for them to be present at the arraignment and post bail if it is set.
